Participation

Commercial interest in nanotechnology is growing exponentially across a range of industries. For example the number of Finnish companies involved in the nanotechnology sector has tripled from 61 to over 200 in just a four-year period according to a survey done by Spinverse Consulting in 2008. In FinNano programme over 100 R&D projects have been funded during the last four years by Tekes and Academy of Finland. The results of the projects are now moving towards commercialization and industrialization. Tekes’ FinNano programme will end on the 31st December 2009.

Tekes actively encourages open cooperation on programme level. International collaboration is important part of the FinNano programme. Fundable international projects must have a common objective and shared tasks. Rights for the results and utilisation of the results have to agree among the participants. Consortia must consist of at least two proposers from two different countries. Each party will be funded primarily by their own sources. Note that Tekes can fund only Finnish project partners. FinNano programme is supporting R&D cooperation between Finland and Europe (MNT ERA-NET network), Japan, USA, China and Russia.

1. R&D funding for companies

There is no set deadline to submit applications for enterprise projects to Tekes. Proposals can be submitted during the entire programme period. It is recommended to contact a Tekes technology adviser when planning the application especially international collaboration projects. See more: http://www.tekes.fi/rahoitus/yritys

MNT-ERA.NET Call 2010

Tekes has decided to participate in the MNT-ERA.NET Transnational Call 2010. Tekes will fund only company projects. MNT-ERA.NET continues to encourage the submission of commercialisable R&D proposals addressing all fields of micro and nano technologies including production technologies. Project consortia consisting of at least two parties from two different participating countries/regions will be invited.

In this MNT-ERA.NET Transnational Call 2010, particular emphasis will be put on the following applications:

  1. Smart sensor systems for Security, Environment and Entertainment
(sensor networks, cognitive systems, spintronics, optical systems)

  2. Medical and health devices
(networked monitoring of health parameters, bio sensors and actuators, bio interfaces, lab on chip)

  3. Functionalised interfaces and structures
(micro/nano layers and surfaces, micro/nano structured materials, nano particles and powders)

  4. Energy for a mobile life
(lightweight and energy efficient components, power generation, storage of energy medium, Organic Photovoltaics)
