Russia - Finland nanotechnology collaboration

The purpose of the Russia-Finnish cooperation is to create joint projects, increase
collaboration, encourage infrastructure cooperation and technology transfer. Tekes is prepared to
fund the Finnish side of joint Russian-Finnish projects.
Russia announced in spring 2007 a national initiative on the development
of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials in the Russian Federation. Over 5 billion eur will
be allocated to nanotechnology R&D by 2015. €740 million will be allocated in the
next three years (till 2010) into equipment for nanotechnology research and €3.7 billion by the end
of 2007 to the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (Rusnano) in funding, with focus on
commercialization of nanotechnology projects with high business potential and/or social benefit.
Head of the nanotechnology initiative is the Minister of Education and Science of the
Russian Federation, Andrey Fursenko. The scientific coordinator is the Russian Research
Centre "
Kurchatov Institute ".
Tekes and FinNano programme are currently working to establish cooperation in nanotechnology
research and development with Russia.
